Toni Kroos Announces Retirement Post Euro 2024

Toni Kroos, Real Madrid and Germany midfielder will conclude his professional football career following Euro 2024. Throughout his tenure with Real since his move from Bayern Munich in July 2014, the 34-year-old has amassed an impressive collection of trophies, clinching both La Liga and the Champions League four times each. Kroos notably contributed to Germany’s World Cup victory in 2014.

After temporarily retiring from international football in July 2021, Toni Kroos returned to the German national team in February following discussions with coach Julian Nagelsmann. Expressing his sentiments on Instagram, Kroos affirmed his decision to retire, citing his desire to conclude his career at its pinnacle.

Kroos made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern Munich at the age of 17 in September 2007, subsequently securing three German league titles during his tenure. While part of the Bayern squad that secured the 2013 Champions League title, Kroos did not feature in the final match.

Reflecting on his transformative move to Real Madrid, Kroos acknowledged the profound impact it had on both his professional and personal life. With his sights set on aiding Real Madrid in their pursuit of a 15th European Cup, Kroos affirmed his allegiance to the club, emphasizing his commitment to concluding his career with Los Blancos.

As Real Madrid prepares to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final at Wembley on 1 June, Kroos reiterated his dedication to the club, stating that he considers Real Madrid his final destination after a decade-long journey. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez praised Kroos as one of the club’s greatest players, reaffirming that Real Madrid will always be his home.

Euro 2024 marks the beginning of Germany’s journey with their opening game against Scotland scheduled for 14 June at Munich’s Allianz Arena.
