On Wednesday night, two Brighton fans were stabbed and robbed in Rome with the attackers masked and believed to be a group of six or seven individuals. The victims aged 27 and 28 sought refuge in a nearby restaurant where emergency services were called.
They were taken to the hospital with injuries not deemed serious. English police liaison officers and the British Consulate are providing assistance. Approximately 3,500 Brighton supporters traveled to Rome for the Europa League last-16 first leg with the club having warned fans about street crime risks.
Earlier this season, a Newcastle fan was stabbed in Milan before a Champions League match. Italian police are investigating the recent incident using CCTV footage.
