Azizulhasni Awang Makes Malaysian Olympic History with Fifth Appearance

Azizulhasni Awang, a track cyclist, will make history as the first Malaysian male athlete to participate in five Olympic games. He and his teammate, Mohd Shah Firdaus Sahrom secured their spots for the keirin and individual sprints in the Paris Olympics after the Track Nations Cup in Milton, Canada. Although they didn’t compete in Milton, their ranking points were sufficient for Olympic qualification.

The Malaysian National Cycling Federation vice president, Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill confirmed the Olympic slots. Nurul Izzah Izzati Mohd Asri also provisionally qualified for the keirin event. Azizul aged 36 aims to add to his impressive Olympic record including a bronze in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and a silver in Tokyo 2020.
