Carlos Sainz of Ferrari is poised to make his comeback at the upcoming Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne after recovering from appendicitis surgery. The Spaniard had to sit out the recent Saudi Arabian GP where Oliver Bearman filled in for him finishing seventh. However with Sainz returning, Bearman is likely to return to Formula 2. Ferrari confirmed Sainz’s anticipated return to the car.
Practice for the Australian GP begins at 01:30 GMT on Friday with the race starting at 04:00 on Sunday. Sainz had an impressive third-place finish at the season-opening Bahrain GP behind Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez. Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur expressed confidence in their performance for the upcoming race aiming for a strong showing and putting pressure on the competition.
