Criticism Mounts for Former Norwich Director Over Comments on Black Footballers

Anti-racism campaign groups have strongly criticized former Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber for his comments about five black footballers, including Raheem Sterling, Abu Kamara, Jonathan Rowe, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis.

In an interview, Webber suggested that these players may have ended up in jail if they hadn’t pursued careers in football. His remarks drew widespread condemnation, with Kick It Out describing them as “absolutely disgraceful” and “deeply offensive.”

Webber has apologized personally to the players and their families. The controversy has highlighted ongoing challenges with racism in football and the need for continued efforts to address institutional racism.
