Ukrainian qualifier Dayana Yastremska expressed her overwhelming emotions after defeating Victoria Azarenka to advance to the Australian Open quarter-finals. Yastremska won in straight sets and secured her first Grand Slam quarter-final appearance. Unfortunately, her compatriot Elina Svitolina had to retire due to a back issue in her match against Linda Noskova, who also progressed to her first Grand Slam quarter-final.
With Azarenka and Svitolina’s exits, the women’s draw is now wide open, featuring first-time Grand Slam finalists. Other high-profile exits earlier in the tournament have left Chinese 12th seed Zheng Qinwen as the highest-ranked player remaining.
