Djokovic, aiming for his 11th title in Melbourne, admitted the incident shook him up, leading to improved intensity on the court. Popyrin, ranked 43rd, showcased impressive play, winning the second set before Djokovic clinched a dramatic victory.

Djokovic will face Tomas Martin Etcheverry in the next round. Italian fourth seed Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round with a swift victory, expressing humor about working on his physique. Stefanos Tsitsipas battled past Jordan Thompson in a thrilling match, describing the adrenaline rush as “insane.” Other notable results included American Frances Tiafoe’s surprising exit and victories for Taylor Fritz and Andrey Rublev.
