High Commission Alert: Nigeria-South Africa AFCON Match Raises Diplomatic Concerns

A diplomatic dispute has erupted between Nigeria and South Africa ahead of their Africa Cup of Nations semi-final clash. The Nigerian High Commission in South Africa cautioned Nigerian football fans against exuberant celebrations to prevent potential xenophobic attacks from frustrated South African supporters.

South Africa dismissed the warning stating there is no history of soccer hooliganism against Nigeria. The Department of International Relations and Cooperation expressed confidence that South Africa poses no threat and criticized the advisory for creating unnecessary tension.

The warning from Nigeria was issued in response to perceived veiled threats online. The match is scheduled for 17:00 GMT in Bouake, Ivory Coast.
