Influencers on the Green: PGA Tour Welcomes Golf Content Creators

The intersection of golf and social media might result in an influencer participating in a PGA Tour event this season. The inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic scheduled for May 9-12 at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club in South Carolina introduces a unique qualifying event called “The Q at Myrtle Beach.”

This 18 holes competition on March 4 features eight prominent golf content creators and eight professionals competing for a PGA Tour exemption. Influencers like George Bryan, Luke Kwon, Micah Morris, Grant Horvat, Nick Stubbe (Fat Perez), Peter Finch and Dan Rapaport are part of the influencer group.

The decision sparked mixed opinions with some viewing it as a marketing gimmick. However, supporters argue that it’s a savvy move by the PGA Tour to tap into the rising interest in golf-related content on platforms like YouTube.

The event aims to bring new audiences to the tour without taking away spots from traditional players creating an additional opportunity for golf enthusiasts with significant social media followings.
