Kenyan World Marathon Champion’s Father Calls for Investigation Amid Suspicious Circumstances

Kelvin Kiptum’s father is urging the Kenyan government to investigate his son’s death asserting that unidentified individuals sought the athlete days before the fatal accident that claimed his life. The 24 years old holder of the world marathon record and his coach Gervais Hakizimana died in a car crash in western Kenya.

Expressing grief over the loss of his only son Kiptum’s father Samson Cheruiyot has called for a thorough investigation revealing that a group of four people had come looking for Kiptum without disclosing their identity. He last spoke to his son on Saturday where Kiptum expressed confidence in winning more medals and discussed plans to run a marathon in under two hours.

While the Kenyan police attribute the runner’s death to a traffic accident Cheruiyot questions the circumstances pointing out that the airbags did not deploy due to the impact being on the car’s roof. Kiptum who set the world record in Chicago leaves behind a legacy of athletic excellence.
