Late Drama Again: Leverkusen’s Resilience Shines in Victory

Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen secured another late victory, extending their lead to seven points over Bayern Munich. In their recent win against RB Leipzig, Piero Hincapié scored a late winner from a set piece delivered by Álex Grimaldo. This marked the second consecutive stoppage-time goal in two successive Bundesliga games on the road since the campaign resumed in 2024. Leverkusen’s performance displayed resilience with Nathan Tella stepping up after an injury forced Jeremie Frimpong out early in the game.

The match saw Leipzig initially dominate with Xavi Simons scoring for the home side. Despite the challenges, Leverkusen rallied in the second half, equalizing through Tella and eventually securing the win with Hincapié’s heroics. Leverkusen’s never-give-up attitude, despite a growing injury list has become a hallmark of their season under Alonso. The team’s ability to seize opportunities and deliver results is evident and while the Neverkusen tag may be fading their mounting injury concerns pose a significant threat to their title aspirations.
