Legal Woes for Ancelotti: Real Madrid Coach Charged with Defrauding Spanish Treasury

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly facing over four years in prison after being charged with defrauding the Spanish Treasury of over £854,000 (€1 million) during his first stint with the club from 2013 to 2015. Prosecutors allege that Ancelotti failed to declare earnings from his image rights instead transferring the sum to other entities through a complex network of trusts and companies.

If found guilty, Ancelotti could receive a prison sentence of four years and nine months but a judge may suspend it if reduced to less than two years considering him a first time offender for a financial crime. The charges relate to the fiscal years 2014 and 2015 involving alleged omissions in tax declarations. Ancelotti is accused of pursuing opacity and concealing the real beneficiary of his income from image rights.

The coach is currently preparing Real Madrid for their Champions League match against RB Leipzig amid the legal proceedings.
