Lewis Ludlam Set to Leave Northampton Saints After Declining Contract Offer

Northampton Saints’ flanker Lewis Ludlam will depart from the Premiership leaders at the season’s end declining a new contract offer. The 28 years old who has made 121 appearances for Northampton was linked with French club Toulon earlier in the season.

Saints director of rugby Phil Dowson expressed disappointment at Ludlam’s decision but acknowledged his contributions to the club as a homegrown player and captain. While Ludlam’s future club is uncertain a potential move to Toulon would mean exclusion from England selection due to RFU regulations.

Ludlam described the decision as tough emphasizing his commitment to Northampton. His departure amid a Premiership season break for the Six Nations poses a challenge for the Saints but the emergence of young talents like Tom Pearson and Henry Pollock offers potential cover in the back row.
