Premier League Deducts Points from Nottingham Forest Amid Controversy

Nottingham Forest expressed strong disappointment over receiving a four points deduction in the Premier League which dropped them into the relegation zone. Despite breaching profitability and sustainability rules by £34.5m, they received a lesser punishment compared to Everton who overspent by £19.5m. Forest cooperated fully and admitted guilt early leading to a reduced deduction.

However, they criticized the process and argued that spending restrictions on promoted clubs undermine league integrity. The club’s defense including the sale of player Brennan Johnson was largely rejected by the commission. Forest emphasized that missing the PSR deadline was not uncommon and raised concerns about the impact on aspiring clubs.

They claimed their circumstances were not considered by the Premier League. The commission defended the punishment as necessary for maintaining league integrity. Forest are considering an appeal within the seven days deadline with any appeals expected to conclude by May 24th.
