Rafa Benitez Departs Celta Vigo Amid Struggles in La Liga

Celta Vigo has terminated Rafa Benitez’s contract after a disappointing spell of just five La Liga victories during his eight months tenure. Benitez the former Liverpool and Everton manager returned to management with Celta last June but struggled to produce favorable results.

With only one win in his last five matches, Benitez leaves the club positioned just outside the relegation zone. Celta currently sits 17th in the league two points clear of the bottom three. The decision to part ways comes ahead of a crucial fixture against Sevilla.

In a statement, the club thanked Benitez for his dedication but expressed disappointment over the team’s performance. Benitez, who recently hinted at aspirations for the England national team job, emphasized his desire to lead a competitive side capable of winning trophies.

Despite his ambitions, Benitez’s tenure at Celta concludes following a 4-0 defeat against Real Madrid in his final match.
