REDS MARCHING ON: Liverpool Regain Top Spot with Comfortable Victory at Burnley

Liverpool returned to the summit of the Premier League standings after securing a convincing 2-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor on Boxing Day. Darwin Nunez and substitute Diogo Jota found the back of the net for the Reds, extending their unbeaten run in the league to five matches.
Nunez ended his 12-match goal drought in all competitions with a well-taken finish in the sixth minute. The Uruguayan striker received a pass from Cody Gakpo and unleashed a low drive into the bottom corner, giving Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford no chance.
Liverpool dominated the proceedings and created numerous opportunities to extend their lead. Mohamed Salah and Gakpo both came close to scoring, but Trafford produced some impressive saves to keep the scoreline respectable for the hosts.
Burnley rarely threatened the Liverpool goal, and their best chance fell to Johann Gudmundsson in the second half, but he headed over the crossbar from close range.
Jota, who made his return from injury, sealed the victory for Liverpool in the 90th minute. The Portuguese forward latched onto a through ball from Salah and calmly slotted the ball past Trafford to secure all three points for the visitors.
Liverpool’s victory sees them move to the top of the Premier League table with 42 points from 19 matches, one point ahead of Manchester City. Burnley, meanwhile, remain rooted to the bottom of the standings with just 11 points from their opening 19 games.
