Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Talks with Uefa to Ensure Manchester United and Nice’s European Football Eligibility

INEOS has engaged in productive discussions with Uefa to secure approval for both Manchester United and OGC Nice to participate in European football next season. Despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s assurance that Nice ownership would not hinder Manchester United’s Champions League participation, Uefa’s current rules on multi-club ownership restrict any entity from controlling or influencing more than one club in continental competition.

Ratcliffe the majority shareholder in Nice and a stakeholder in United is actively working with Uefa which is reviewing its regulations on multi-club ownership. Uefa’s existing rules state that if multiple clubs with the same ownership qualify only the one with a higher domestic finish can compete in Europe. Ratcliffe suggested restructuring Nice’s board to comply with Uefa’s rules.

INEOS which purchased Nice in 2019 is navigating this situation as it seeks approval for both clubs to participate in European competitions next season.
