Unexpected Loss for Lee Zii Jia in French Open: Danish Player Takes Revenge

Professional badminton player Lee Zii Jia had a disappointing start to his Europe tour with an unexpected defeat to left-handed player Magnus Johannesen of Denmark in the first round of the French Open. World No. 10 Zii Jia lost 15-21, 19-21 in 41 minutes to the world No. 33.

Despite having beaten Johannesen just a year ago, Zii Jia attributed his loss to impatience and unforced errors. The Danish player who secured his revenge expressed joy over his victory. In women’s doubles, Malaysian pairs Pearly Tan/M. Thinaah and Vivian Hoo/Lim Chiew Sien exited the tournament.

The second round will see mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei facing Feng Yanzhe/Huang Dong-ping of China while in men’s doubles the surviving pairs Man Wei Chong/Tee Kai Wun and Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik will compete against Indian and Taiwanese opponents in the last 16 matches.
