The CONCACAF Nations League final between the US men’s team and Mexico was marred by instances of “discriminatory chanting” from spectators at AT&T Stadium in Texas, prompting the referee to suspend the game twice. Despite the disruptions, the US secured a 2-0 victory with goals from Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna claiming their third consecutive trophy.
The discriminatory chants including homophobic slurs led to the referee halting the match in the 88th minute and again during stoppage time. CONCACAF condemned the chanting and took action to address the issue, ejecting several fans and activating FIFA protocol. FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed disappointment and called for accountability.
