In November, Liverpool reportedly initiated contact with Xabi Alonso regarding the possibility of him becoming the club’s manager next season. Jurgen Klopp had privately revealed his decision to step down after eight and a half years. Alonso a former Liverpool player is considered the leading candidate.
However, complications arise as he is currently the manager of Bayer Leverkusen. Despite Leverkusen’s optimism that Alonso will stay Liverpool remains interested. The 42 years old has led Leverkusen to the top of the Bundesliga and is focused on the ongoing season.
Other managerial candidates include Roberto De Zerbi, Ruben Amorim and Julian Nagelsmann. Liverpool’s owners FSG have appointed Theo Epstein as a senior advisor to oversee sporting matters for Liverpool and other franchises under FSG. Klopp’s successor is now a key focus for the club.
