Elaine Thompson-Herah Focused on 100m at Paris Games

Elaine Thompson-Herah, Jamaica’s five-time Olympic gold medalist, has chosen not to defend her 200m title at the upcoming Paris Games this summer. The 31-year-old sprinter has decided not to compete in the distance at the upcoming Jamaican trials but will still participate in the highly anticipated 100m event. Thompson-Herah’s decision follows a recent appearance at the NYC Grand Prix, where she appeared to sustain an injury during the 100m race earlier this month.

Despite this setback, she remains a dominant force in women’s sprinting, holding the distinction of being the second-fastest woman in history over the 100m distance. Notably, she made history at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by becoming the first woman to win consecutive sprint doubles, triumphing in both the 100m and 200m races. In a significant development last November, Elaine Thompson-Herah ended her partnership with coach Shanikie Osbourne and appointed Reynaldo Walcott as her new coach.

Walcott, who also coaches Jamaican star Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will now oversee Thompson-Herah’s preparations leading up to the Paris Olympics. The athletics competitions at the Paris Games will span from August 1 to August 11, offering Thompson-Herah and fellow athletes a pivotal opportunity to display their talents on the global stage. It promises to be a significant event where athletes from around the world will compete at the highest level.
