Chris Woakes Discusses Cricket Return After Father’s Passing

Chris Woakes, England and Warwickshire all-rounder has announced he will return to cricket “when the time is right” following the death of his father. The 35-year-old has not played for his county this season and skipped the Indian Premier League with Punjab Kings. He was also left out of England’s squad for the Twenty20 World Cup. In a social media post, Chris Woakes explained his absence: “The last month has been the most challenging of my life, as my Dad unfortunately passed away at the beginning of May. “I’ve spent the last few weeks with my family, the people most important to me.

We are all grieving and trying to navigate these incredibly difficult times. “It’s moments like these that give the greatest perspective. “I will return to playing cricket for Warwickshire, a club my Dad dearly loved, when the time is right for me and my family. Playing cricket for Warwickshire and England made my Dad incredibly proud, and I look forward to doing that again soon.” Woakes’ last appearance was with the Sharjah Warriors in the International League T20 in the United Arab Emirates in February and he was part of the England squad that toured the West Indies in December. He has played more than 200 games for England across all formats.
