Amy Yang Celebrates First Major Win at Sahalee Country Club

Amy Yang of South Korea clinched her first major title at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship held at Sahalee Country Club in Seattle. The 34-year-old entered the final round with a two-shot lead and extended it to seven strokes after 15 holes. Despite stumbling with a bogey on the 16th and a double bogey on the 17th, Yang managed to card a level-par 72, finishing at seven under par. She secured victory by three strokes over Jin Young Ko of South Korea, American Lilia Vu, and Japan’s Miyu Yamashita.

Yang’s victory came in her 75th major appearance, marking the longest wait for a maiden major win since Angela Stanford’s victory in her 76th major at the 2018 Evian Championship. Overwhelmed by her achievement, Amy Yang expressed, “I’m lost for words right now. I started doubting myself if I was ever going to win a major before I retire, and I’m so grateful and very, very happy to win one. All four rounds were tough out there, but I just trusted what I prepared and did my best all week.”

Throughout the tournament, Yang demonstrated resilience, opening her final round with a birdie and adding two more before the turn. Despite a bogey on the 10th, she bounced back with birdies on the 11th and 13th to maintain her lead. Charley Hull of England finished tied for 16th place after a closing round of 74 while Ireland’s Leona Maguire secured 24th place with rounds of 75 and 76 over the weekend.
