Nelly Korda Faces Tough Start at US Women’s Open

Nelly Korda, world number one, struggled in the US Women’s Open, carding a 10-over-par 80, including a challenging septuple-bogey. Despite her favored status, Nelly Korda faltered early, bogeying the 10th and facing trouble on the 12th. Her early setbacks hindered her performance throughout the round.

Adela Cernousek (French amateur), Andrea Lee (American) and Wichanee Meechai (Thailand) led with impressive one-under-par 69s. Korda’s contention hopes faded with multiple bogeys and a frustrating 10 on the 12th hole. These setbacks significantly hindered her chances of a competitive performance in the tournament.

Reflecting on her performance, Korda acknowledged the challenges of the day, admitting, “I just didn’t really want to shoot 80 and I just kept making bogeys.” Despite her setback, Korda remains optimistic, recognizing that bad days are inevitable in golf. She is determined to bounce back and continue striving for success in future competitions.

Among other notable performances, England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff finished the round at two over par while Ireland’s Leona Maguire trailed closely with a score of 73. Gemma Dryburgh from Scotland and Lottie Woad an English amateur concluded their rounds with scores of +7. Meanwhile, Charley Hull representing England finished with a slightly better score of +5.
