Robert MacIntyre Clinches Dramatic Scottish Open Win

Robert MacIntyre celebrated an emotional victory on home soil, winning the Scottish Open at the Renaissance Club. After narrowly missing out on the title to Rory McIlroy last year, MacIntyre surged to win with a three-under 67, finishing 18 under par. His closing birdie putt from 22 feet on the last hole secured the win, edging out Adam Scott by a single shot. Frenchman Romain Langasque finished third at 15 under while McIlroy and Ludvig Aberg were further back. Aberg, who led from halfway, ended with a three-over 73.

This triumph marks MacIntyre’s second PGA Tour win in six weeks, following his Canadian Open victory. However, winning in front of a passionate Scottish crowd was especially meaningful. “This was the one I wanted,” MacIntyre said, overwhelmed with emotion before his final putt. MacIntyre’s final round was dramatic. Two shots back initially, he reignited his challenge with a 40-foot birdie on the 14th. On the 16th, luck was on his side when he received a free drop after landing near a sprinkler head, allowing him to make an eagle.

This stroke of fortune was pivotal, lifting him level with Scott before his decisive birdie on the last hole. Robert MacIntyre’s victory is his third on the DP World Tour and the first Scottish Open win by a home player since Colin Montgomerie 25 years ago. Reflecting on his achievement, MacIntyre emphasized the importance of celebrating such moments, despite the upcoming Open at Royal Troon.

England’s Richard Mansell and Aaron Rai, along with Sweden’s Alex Noren, secured spots in The Open. Mansell equaled the course record with a 61, highlighting the unpredictability of golf, saying, “this game is just insane.”
