Scottie Scheffler Arrested Before PGA Championship Round

Scottie Scheffler, world number one golfer found himself arrested and charged with four offenses including one felony just before the round began at the second round of the PGA Championship. Scheffler, who described the incident as “a big misunderstanding” with police, found himself taken away from Valhalla Golf Club in handcuffs. An 80-minute delay ensued at the start of the round due to an accident near the course.

Reports indicate that Scheffler attempted to drive around the accident about an hour later, resulting in a confrontation with a police officer. The officer, Detective Bryan Gillis, sustained injuries when Scheffler’s vehicle dragged him to the ground. Subsequently, Scottie Scheffler faced charges of second-degree assault on a police officer, among other offenses.

In response, Scheffler’s attorney claimed that Scheffler was unaware of the accident and believed he was permitted to enter Valhalla. Scheffler himself issued a statement, asserting that he had followed police instructions and expressing hope to concentrate on golf. Despite the chaotic morning, Scheffler managed to shoot a second-round 66.

The incident occurred amidst a more serious accident, wherein a shuttle bus struck and fatally injured a pedestrian near the front gate of the Valhalla course. The PGA of America extended condolences to the victim’s family and clarified that the individual killed was working at the event.
