Alcaraz Stuns Tsitsipas, Faces Sinner in French Open Showdown

Alcaraz effortlessly defeated Tsitsipas. He set up a thrilling French Open semi-final showdown against the upcoming world number one, Jannik Sinner. The 21-year-old Spanish third seed triumphed 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 over the Greek ninth seed on the clay courts of Roland Garros. This victory signifies the second consecutive year that Carlos Alcaraz has ousted Stefano Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals of the Paris major. With this win, the reigning Wimbledon champion has now secured victory in all six of their career encounters.

Meanwhile, second seed Sinner continued his quest for a second consecutive Grand Slam title by comfortably defeating Grigor Dimitrov earlier in the day. The Australian Open champion clinched a commanding 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) win over the Bulgarian 10th seed. He subsequently received the news that he would ascend to the top of the ATP rankings. Defending champion Novak Djokovic withdrew from his quarter-final due to a leg injury, paving the way for 22-year-old Sinner to claim the top spot when the latest rankings are released.

Expressing his aspirations, Sinner stated, “It’s every player’s dream to become number one in the world.” He is poised to become the first Italian to lead the men’s rankings since their inception in 1973. Despite Djokovic’s exit, Sinner extended his well wishes for the Serbian’s speedy recovery. With Djokovic sidelined, a new name will etch on the Coupe des Mousquetaires after Sunday’s men’s singles final. As for Alcaraz, he continues to fortify his title ambitions with another stellar performance at Roland Garros.
