Coco Gauff Stunned by Emma Navarro in Wimbledon Upset

Coco Gauff, the second seed and highest-ranked player left in the women’s singles draw at Wimbledon, suffered a surprising exit, falling 6-4, 6-3 to fellow American Emma Navarro, the 19th seed. This defeat marked another upset following Iga Swiatek’s earlier loss to Yulia Putintseva. With Coco Gauff’s departure, only two top-10 players, Elena Rybakina (4th seed) and Jasmine Paolini (7th seed), remain in contention.

Gauff, known for her strong performances in other Grand Slams, struggled with unforced errors and Navarro’s varied game. Despite strong crowd support, she couldn’t recover after Navarro broke early in the second set. Reflecting on her victory, Navarro expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play on Centre Court and highlighted the honor of competing at such a prestigious tournament.

Meanwhile, Jasmine Paolini advanced to her first Wimbledon quarter-final after Madison Keys retired due to injury during their match. Paolini, visibly empathetic towards Keys, acknowledged the emotional ups and downs of their match. The Italian, a French Open finalist, had never won a main draw match at Wimbledon until this year.

In another match, Donna Vekic defeated Paula Badosa in three sets amidst rain interruptions, securing her spot in the quarter-finals where she will face Lulu Sun of New Zealand, who overcame Emma Raducanu. The day’s events underscored the unpredictability of Wimbledon and showcased breakthrough performances from players like Navarro and Paolini, while injuries affected outcomes, adding to the drama of the tournament.
